About Blessings Christian Gifts Shop:
The interesting thing about our business is that it really wasn't started by a person, it was started by the Holy Spirit. Several years ago with the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, St. Mary's Church of the Assumption in West, Texas started a gift shop and called it Divine Mercy Gift Shop. It was operated by volunteers from the Church and did a great job in filling a need for Catholic/Christian gifts in our small town. After many years of operation a very sweet lady from our community Mrs. Diane Friend took over and expanded the shop and changed the name to Blessings Christian Gift Shop. Diane operated the store for 5 years then in the spring of 2012 it was purchased by Robin & Carolyn Waters also of West, Texas. Blessings was then moved from downtown West, Texas just a few blocks away to the frontage road on Interstate Highway 35.
As far as we know, Blessings is the only independant Catholic gift shop in any town between Austin and the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex. We are now expanding into the on-line market and hope to continue to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ through our store. We are a Catholic gift shop and since the Catholic Church is the largest Christian Church in the world that makes us a Christian gift shop. Our company motto is " Serving the Catholic Community and all of our Brothers & Sisters in Christ". That being said many of the items in our store are things that both Catholics and Non Catholics alike would enjoy. We pray that through our store we are able to help you in your lifelong spiritual journey with Christ.
About the Owners: Robin & Carolyn Waters
Carolyn and I have been on a spiritual journey since our marriage 35 years ago that lead us to purchase Blessing Christian Gift Shop as way to better serve our community and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Carolyn grew up in Abbott, Texas and is a lifelong Catholic. I grew up just a few miles down the road in West, Texas where my family were members of the Baptist Church. Shortly before we got married the Holy Spirit lead me to join the Catholic Church and I thank God for the fullness of the faith he has shown me through His Church. No disrespect to any Christian Church, or any of my Brother & Sisters in Christ, I just know the Catholic Church is where God wants me to be.
We have been blessed with 3 beautiful children, Justin, Jacob, & Julia. In everyone's life there are events that change the course we think were on with our life. The event that changed our life and probably the biggest reason we now own a Christian Gift Shop is the death of our oldest son Justin when he was 18 years old.
When Justin was 8 years old he was diagnosed with leukemia. After 2-1/2 years of weekly chemotherapy he was healthy for 2-1/2 years then relapsed and had to undergo 2 more years of weekly chemotherapy. Ten months after his second battle with cancer, Justin got leukemia for a third time and underwent a bone marrow transplant. Complications from the bone marrow transplant caused extensive damage to his lungs and he had to have a double lung transplant. After the lung transplant he developed an infection in his brain and passed away because of this infection in 2007. He had battled cancer and all the complications that come with it for 10 years and 1 month.
After going through this type of tragedy I believe there is no middle ground. Either you blame God and struggle to deal with all the mental anguish and pain that comes with that, or you say God, your all I have, I can't survive this without you, please draw me closer to you and comfort and sustain us through this pain. We chose to draw closer to God and pray that through Blessings we will be doing His Will and serving Him and His people each day. What a great job!!!
Our other 2 children Jacob & Julia are doing great and we are very proud of them.
I don’t claim to understand everything about God but there are 2 things I know for sure.
1. God did NOT choose Justin or anyone else to get cancer, he doesn't make bad things
happen to any of us. He loves us way to much for that. God is Good All the Time
2. God can take the worst evil the world has to offer and turn it into good.
We pray that the work God has lead us to do through Blessings is one of the ways He is turning the bad into good.
May God Bless Your All,
